In computing, an operating systems(OS) is an interface between hardware and user, which is responsible for the management and coordination of activities and the sharing of the resources of a computer, that acts as a host for computing applications run on the machine. One of the purposes of an operating system is to handle the resourse allocation and access protection of the hardware. This relieves the application programmers from having to manage these details.

Among the operating systems types of computers known are the GUI, Multi-user, Multiprocessing, Multitasking and the Multi threading. The GUI contains graphics and icons and is commonly navigated by using a computer mouse. The Multi-user system allows multiple users to use the computerat the same time or different time. The Multi-processing system's capable of supporting and utilizing more than one computer processor. The Multi-Tasking too allows multiple software processes to run at the same time. Besides that, the Multi-Threading allows different parts of software program to run concurrently. The operating systems that fall into this category are the Linux, Unix, and the Windows 2000.
